Thanks to our many facebook friends and web-site visitors, Lucky's story was recently brought to our attention. The Rescue where he has been staying for the last 4 years had posted an update that he had broken his leg and was now going to be needing surgery. I am happy to report that even at his current age of now 12, his surgery done 3-26-12 was successful. Due to his age, his leg will need to remain pinned minimally 2 and possibly 3 months to allow proper mending. Keeping him quiet has proven to be the biggest issue. His initial surgery was approximately $450. He will continue to have additional medical expenses for some time, to include pain medications as well as eventually another procedure when it's time to have the pins removed from his leg. He's now receiving a quality diet and extra vitamins during his recuperation time.......plus lotsa luvin and his personal favorite (smoked bone treats).
NOT EVERYONE IS CAPABLE OF ADOPTING A SENIOR (ESPECIALLY ONE RECOVERING FROM AN INJURY); HOWEVER, IF YOU CAN ASSIST WITH A SMALL DONATION TOWARDS THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF LUCKY'S MEDICAL CARE, WE WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATIVE. PLEASE MARK YOUR DONATION "FOR LUCKY" AND REMEMBER YOUR DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE !
PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING A SENIOR SHELTIE. Sheltie Shack Rescue is a huge advocate for senior dogs and senior adopters, just visit with us about what a WIN WIN experience it can be for everyone involved !
UPDATE (5-1-12)
Lucky acts like he's in his second childhood. In his case, it's hard to keep AN OLD DOG DOWN, ha. He wants to wiggle and play bow and get silly for attention. With an activity level like this we will want to be VERY certain that his leg is completely mended before removing the hardware in his leg for sure. It is sure a heartwarming experience to see such a turnaround in his personality. There is no doubt he's a happy camper here at the Sheltie Shack. Wait till he finds out there's even a bigger event to come in his life.......a FOREVER HOME!
From our Shack to Yours !
We’ve had wonderful adopters and supporters that help the Sheltie Shack continue our quest to find homes for the wonderful shelties that find themselves in less than positive, sometimes horrendous situations. Since we don’t turn any sheltie away due to age or health problems sometimes their wait for furever homes takes longer than we would like, but all have a place to be safe and loved until that time comes.
To those of you that have lost beloved pets this year, we send our sincere condolences. We understand the hole in your heart that is left, but please remember all the love and laughter that you shared in the time you had together. We hope in time, you'll contact us to help mend that broken heart with a sheltie that needs you more than you might need them.
If you are thinking about a gift that keeps on giving for Holidays, Birthdays, Anniversaries or to honor or remember a Loved One, consider making a donation to Sheltie Shack Rescue of Kansas. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible and a note of thanks will be sent to you, along with tax documentation as well as a thank you and recognition to the recipient of your thoughtfulness.
